In building sustainable businesses, we look beyond pure economic benefits and address the safety, environmental and social impact of our decisions.
We believe the community has a right to know about our planned and ongoing activities and to PARTICIPATE in the decision-making process on issues that have a direct impact on them. So we foster and encourage dialogue with our stakeholders about the challenges and opportunities of our operations, from project conception to reclamation. As a result, we’ve been successful in developing mutually beneficial PARTNERSHIPS with local communities, governments and other stakeholders.
As a long-term player in this industry, we try to minimize the impact of our operations on the ENVIRONMENT. In 2004, we were awarded the Ethics in Action award for the remediation of a former chemicals site in British Columbia. We’ve been actively engaged in reducing our greenhouse emissions and are constantly looking for NEW WAYS to further reduce emissions in a cost-effective manner. In 2006, we invested in our first renewable energy initiative, a wind farm in southern Alberta. At full capacity, it will produce enough green energy to power approximately 25,000 homes.
Externally, we are recognized for the way we do business. In 2007, we received several awards which reflect our high standards in safety, leadership, social responsibility, reporting and corporate governance. At Nexen, we do the right things for the right reasons.
