Integrity is not just a value at Nexen—it’s a defining characteristic. Operating with integrity and respect for the public, shareholders and communities not only helps our performance, we believe it’s the best way to successfully do business.

So how do we ensure we’re living our values? By developing systems and programs throughout the organization that reinforce our values. It starts at the top with an informed and engaged Board of Directors committed to honest, TRANSPARENT communication. And it extends through senior management to all employees - with our integrity programs, safety initiatives, continued PROFESSIONAL development and the Company's guiding policies on ethics, GOVERNANCE practices and privacy.

In 1997, we helped develop the International Code of Ethics for Canadian Business, which has since been adopted by hundreds of Canadian companies operating internationally—a continuing example of our leadership role in operating with integrity.

In 2007, we received the Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart National Award in Governance. This award recognized Nexen's exceptional governance practices, including an innovative approach to discussing governance issues with stakeholders, and making improvements.
