Alan O'Brien
Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary
Appointed as Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary in November 2011, Alan is responsible for the areas of Legal, Security, Health, Safety and Environment & Social Responsibility. Alan has worked at Nexen since 2002, most recently as Vice President International Legal. Prior to joining Nexen, Alan held progressively senior positions in legal, company secretarial and commercial affairs in other international energy companies (LASMO and ENI before joining Nexen), and he has worked in a number of overseas jurisdictions including Colombia and Italy.
Alan was admitted as a Solicitor to the Law Society of England and Wales in 1982. In 1999 he completed a Master of Business Administration from the Henley Management College.
