Charles W. Fischer

Biography

Charlie Fischer, 57, has been Nexen's President and CEO since June 1, 2001. Formerly, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer responsible for our conventional oil and gas business in Western Canada, the US Gulf Coast and all international locations, as well as oil sands, marketing and information systems activities worldwide. He joined Nexen in 1994 following service with Dome Petroleum Ltd., Hudson’s Bay Oil & Gas Ltd., Bow Valley Industries Ltd., Sproule Associates Ltd. and Encor Energy Ltd.

Charlie graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1971 and a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Finance in 1982. He has an Honorary Doctorate of Law degree from the University of Calgary and an Honarary Bachelor of Applied Technology degree from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Charlie does not serve on any other public company board. He is Co-Chair of Alberta Climate Change Central, a member of the board of the Alberta Energy Research Institute and a member of the board of governors of the University of Calgary.

Charlie currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.

Marvin Romanow

Executive Vice President
and Chief Financial Officer

Biography

Marvin Romanow is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nexen Inc. He started his career as a drilling engineer for a major independent oil company. His career has spanned many financial and operating roles, including professional and leadership roles in corporate finance, planning, business development, exploration and development, and reservoir engineering.

Marvin has been a Director of the Canexus Income Fund since its inception. Canexus is the third largest North American supplier of bleaching chemicals to the pulp and paper industry. He is a member of the Board and Management Committee of Syncrude Canada, the country’s largest oilsands development. Marvin is also a Director of the Canadian Energy Research Institute, a leading North American energy thinktank. In addition, he has appeared as an expert witness in front of several federal and provincial energy regulatory boards and provided tax policy advice to Canada’s House of Common’s Finance Committee.

In April of 2007 he was awarded Canada’s “CFO of the Year” award and in September of the same year he received the Petroleum Economist award for "Energy Executive of the Year 2006".

Marvin grew up in a small rural community in southeast Saskatchewan. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, with great distinction, in 1977 and his MBA from the same University in 1980. Marvin is also a graduate of Harvard’s Program for Management Development and in October of 2007 he completed INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme. He recently co-chaired a highly successful $30 million capital campaign for the University of Saskatchewan in the Calgary region. Marvin is married with four children. He enjoys golfing, travelling and spending time with his family.

Laurence Murphy

Executive Vice President,

Biography

Mr. Murphy was appointed Executive Vice President, International Oil and Gas in November 2007. He most recently held the position Senior Vice President, International Oil and Gas since January 1998. Prior to this, Mr. Murphy was appointed Vice President of the International Division in February 1998 and served as President of Nexen Petroleum International Ltd., the international operating subsidiary. He has been with the company since 1986 in a variety of positions in the Petrogas Operations, Corporate Planning and International Divisions.

Mr. Murphy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University College in Ireland.

Roger D. Thomas

Executive Vice President,
North America

Biography

Mr. Thomas was appointed Executive Vice President, North America in November 2007. Prior to this, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Canadian Oil and Gas since January 1998.

Since joining the corporation in 1978, Mr. Thomas has held a variety of positions including Business Manager, Specialty Chemicals Division; Division Vice President, Oil & Gas Marketing; and Division Vice President, Corporate Planning.

Mr. Thomas attended both the University of Toronto and York University, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. in Economics/History. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program at the University of Michigan.

Active in industry and community associations, Mr. Thomas is First Vice Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, President of the Alberta Chamber of Resources and a Governor and Past Chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). He also serves as Division Co-Chair for the Calgary United Way Engineering, Energy Services Supply Division and as a Director of Careers: The Next Generation.

He is a past Director of The Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Adult Learning Centre, Ranch Ehrlo Foundation, the Calgary Science Centre, The Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Society and the Petroleum Technology Research Centre.

Mr. Thomas is married with two children and resides in Calgary, Alberta.

Gary H. Nieuwenburg

Synthetic Crude

Biography

Mr. Nieuwenburg was appointed Senior Vice President, Synthetic Crude in November 2007. Prior to this, he held the position Vice President, Synthetic Crude since July 2002, responsible for the newly formed Synthetic Crude Business Unit in the Canadian Oil & Gas Division. Mr. Nieuwenburg joined Nexen in 1981 and has held various positions of increasing responsibility including Vice President, Exploration and Production, Canadian Oil & Gas. In 2001, he was appointed an officer and Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development.

Gary is a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of Manitoba.

Kevin J. Reinhart

Business Development

Biography

Mr. Reinhart was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development in November 2007. Prior to this, he held the position Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development. Since joining Nexen as Controller in 1994, he has assumed increasing responsibilities and has held various positions, including Director of Risk Management and Treasurer. Prior to Nexen, Mr. Reinhart held senior management positions in a public accounting firm.

Mr. Reinhart is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Saint Mary’s University, Halifax.

Brian Reinsborough

United States Oil & Gas

Biography

Mr. Reinsborough was appointed Senior Vice President, US Oil and Gas and an officer of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. He joined Nexen in 1994 and most recently held the position of Vice President, Exploration, Operations and Production for the U.S. Oil and Gas division. Since joining the company, Mr. Reinsborough has progressed through various exploration roles. In 1998, he became the Exploration Manager, Deepwater and in 2002 the Vice President, Exploration. Prior to Nexen, Mr. Reinsborough worked in the oil and gas industry for over eight years in a geological capacity.

Mr. Reinsborough holds a Master of Geology Degree from the University of Texas in Austin and a Bachelor of Geology from New Brunswick’s Mount Allison University.

Tim Thomas

Biography

Mr. Thomas was appointed Senior Vice President, Canadian Oil and Gas and an officer of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. He joined Nexen in 1991 and most recently held the position Vice President, Exploration and Production for the Canadian Oil and Gas division. Prior to this, Mr. Thomas held a variety of positions within the company, including Vice President, Yemen Operations and International Business Development, President and General Manager, Yemen Operations, and General Manager, Business Development located in London. He came to Nexen with over ten years of drilling experience in Canada and the North Sea.

Mr. Thomas graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Imperial College of Science in the UK.

Bob Black

Vice President,
Energy Marketing

Biography

Bob joined Nexen in 1992 as the Manager of Crude Oil Marketing after spending several years as the Manager of Supply for two different refining companies. In 1996, he was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President, North American Marketing for Nexen Marketing. On April 1, 2002, Bob was appointed President, Nexen Marketing assuming the responsibilities for Nexen's global energy marketing activities.

Randy Jahrig

Biography

Randy joined Nexen in 1990 as a Staff Human Resources Advisor in the Chemicals Division following 13 years in human resources roles with Syncrude and ICI Canada. Following the acquisition of Wascana Energy, Randy relocated to Regina when he was appointed Vice President of Human Resources for the Canadian Oil and Gas Division. Randy relocated to the UK in 2005 following the acquisition of EnCana’s UK assets and continued in his role as Vice President, Human Resources, Canada and International.

Kim McKenzie

Chief Information Officer

Biography

Mr. McKenzie was appointed Vice President and Chief Information Officer and an officer of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. He joined the company in 1985 as the Manager Business Systems, a position which he held until his appointment to Vice President, Information Technology in 1992. Prior to Nexen, Mr. McKenzie held senior positions in the information technology industry.

Mr. McKenzie graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.

Eric Miller

Vice President, General Counsel
and Secretary

Biography

Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary, responsible for the areas of Legal, Security, HSE & SR, Government Relations and Corporate Affairs. Eric has worked at Nexen since 1993, prior thereto having practised law in Calgary with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer (1989-1993) in the corporate commercial area. Eric has held several senior legal positions within Nexen’s domestic and international divisions.

He is the President and has been a Director of the Association of General Counsel of Alberta since 2003. He received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Calgary in 1985, and his Bachelor of Laws and Masters of Business Administration Degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business (York) in 1989. In 2007 he completed the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) Haskayne / Rotman Program.

Una M. Power

Treasurer

Biography

Una Power was appointed Treasurer in July 2002. Since joining Nexen in 1992, she has held numerous positions in the Finance area including Manager, Investor Relations and most recently, Controller. Prior to joining Nexen, she held a variety of positions in public accounting firms.

Una obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree from Memorial University in Newfoundland. She is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Financial Analyst.

Brendon Muller

Controller

Biography

Brendon joined Nexen’s corporate accounting group in 2002 and managed the external financial reporting for Nexen to the U.S. and Canadian regulatory bodies. Prior to joining Nexen he worked in Bermuda managing and coordinating administrative, accounting, corporate secretarial and shareholder services for domestic and off shore investment companies.

Through his external experience and his work with Nexen, Brendon has developed extensive knowledge in the area of Canadian and U.S. GAAP as well as Sarbanes/Oxley requirements.

Brendon graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary in 1992 and received his Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta in 1995. He articled in Calgary with Doane Raymond and in Bermuda with Ernst & Young.
