Since 2003, the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering has awarded an entrepreneur and leader in the engineering community with the Canadian Engineering Leader Award in recognition of his or her outstanding leadership. In 2006, the Schulich School of Engineering awarded Nexen CEO and President Charlie Fischer with the distinction.

“Mr. Fischer was selected because his reputation, outstanding accomplishments, vision, and commitment to hard work, ethics and volunteerism have influenced and benefited innumerable people in Calgary and beyond,” says Pamela Bergsteinsson, manager of Industry and Alumni Relations for the Schulich School of Engineering.

Criteria for the award include holding a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a P.Eng. or equivalent designation. The recipient must also have achieved engineering excellence while exceeding expectations in the engineering community and demonstrated responsibility and accountability.

Charlie joins several prestigious recipients of this award, including Arthur Dumont, longtime member of Engineering Associates Program and Kathleen E. Sendall, Senior VP of North American Natural Gas for Petro-Canada.
