For the second year in a row, Nexen has won the U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) national Safety Award for Excellence in the moderate category. Companies in this section produce at least one million barrels of oil per year.

The award was presented to Nexen Petroleum U.S.A. vice-president Operations, Larry McRae on April 25 in Houston, Texas. It recognizes outstanding safety performance by oil and gas companies operating on the outer continental shelf of the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, the award illustrates to the public that oil and gas companies can operate safety and in an environmentally responsible manner in the Gulf.

Operational conditions, technology, number of safety incidents per year and the result of Minerals Management inspections are all taken into consideration when choosing the winner of the award.

Previous award-winners include Kerr-McGee, ExxonMobil and Oxy USA, Inc.
