Dr. Randy Gossen, vice president of Health, Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility, was awarded his second doctorate degree from the University of Calgary on June 14 – a Honourary Doctorate of Laws degree.

“I am extremely honoured to be the recipient of this Honourary Doctorate of Laws degree and I humbly wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for this recognition,” Randy said in his convocation address. “It means as much to me, if not more, than the doctorate degree I received from this institution in 1973.”

Randy’s address to University of Calgary graduates focused on the importance of corporate social responsibility. He has been strongly committed to sustainability, the environment and community development throughout his 33 years in the oil and gas industry. Randy is the president of the World Petroleum Council, which will hold its triennial conference in Madrid, Spain in July 2008.

“May your careers be as fulfilling as mine has been and offer you not only the financial rewards you will earn, but the opportunity to help make the world a better place,” he told the graduates.
