For the sixth consecutive year, Nexen has been recognized as a global leader in sustainable business practices by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI).
Nexen is one of 19 oil and gas companies and one of 10 Canadian-based companies, from all sectors, to achieve a place on the index in 2007. Other oil and gas companies include BG Group, Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil, Total, EnCana and Woodside Petroleum. A total of 318 companies are listed on the index this year.
To qualify for the listing, Nexen completed an annual survey covering the company's social, environmental and economic performance. Almost 40 Nexen employees from across the company participated in the extensive survey.
2007 Highlights
- Nexen's overall score increased one per cent from 68 to 69 per cent
- Nexen scored 100 per cent in environmental performance (eco-efficiency) and stakeholder engagement
- Nexen achieved a 36 per cent increase in the category of human capital development and a 23 per cent increase in renewable energy
The DJSI allows Nexen to benchmark our performance against the best oil and gas companies and provides us with an entry into socially-responsible investment funds around the globe.
