On August 27, Canadian Nexen Petroleum Yemen (CNPY) employees and contractors at the Ash Shihr Crude Oil Export Terminal reached a world-class safety milestone – 10 years without a Lost Time Injury.

This is an outstanding achievement that shows the high level of competency and attention to safety that Yemen employees have achieved on-the-job.

The Ash Shihr Terminal started exporting Yemen Masila Blend crude oil on August 5, 1993 and by August 27, 2006 had exported 1,061,305,000 barrels on 1,125 ships to over 16 countries.

Over the past 10 years CNPY employees and contractors have worked a total of 2,739,104 hours without a serious injury, often in hazardous locations. However, due to continued and improving professionalism and competency in all areas of the workplace, the team at the Terminal has been able to operate safely for 10 years.

The most significant change in the past 10 years has been the continuous development and promotion of National employees.

Currently, four departments are fully Yemenized including Administration and Travel, Environment, Health and Safety, Finance and Records, and Logistics. Yemenization means the entire department is operated by Yemeni employees with no expatriate participation. All other Terminal Operational groups have reached at least 80 per cent Yemenization.
