For the second year in a row, Nexen has been named one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada for 2006 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. In addition, we have been named among the Top 20 Employers in Alberta

To develop this year’s list, more than 7,500 employers across Canada were invited to participate in an extensive application process that includes a review of Human Resource practices and an operations overview. This year, over 1,200 companies elected to complete the process with the final 100 announced last week.
“We are proud to be recognized as one of the top 100 employers in Canada,” said Charlie Fischer, Nexen’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Being included on the list is a tribute to both our work environment here at Nexen and our talented and diverse employees. Above all else, it is the dedication of our employee base that accounts for our company’s success.”
Seven key areas are examined within each company to determine the top 100 employers. These include: the physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; and training and skills development. Each company’s charitable efforts and community relations practices were also evaluated.
The applications are processed by a research team headed by Richard Yerema of Mediacorp, who compiles the winning list into a book. This year the team was assisted by a board of academics who are all experts in Human Resources.
A key trend seen this year was the impact of demographics on the benefits being offered at the top companies. These employers are offering such things as time off for elder care and salary-top up for compassionate leave.
Watch bookstores later this fall for the Top 100 Employers in Canada book.
