Nexen has won a prestigious international award for the Buzzard project in the North Sea.

We were the winning entry in the Energy Engineering Project of the Year category of the Platts Global Energy Awards which were presented November 29 in New York. Phil Oldham, managing director of Nexen’s U.K. region and Paul Doble, who managed the Buzzard project (now retired), were both in New York to accept the award.

The primary reasons for Buzzard’s win were due to its technical excellence, superior handling of safety and environmental challenges and the fact it was completed within budget and time constraints in just three years.

In addition to winning for the Buzzard project, Nexen was one of six finalists in the Hydrocarbon Producer of the Year category which was won by Chesapeake Bay Energy.

The Platts Global Energy Awards began nine years ago and have become the global benchmark for recognizing leadership in the energy industry.
