Dr. Randy Gossen, vice president of Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility was awarded the Energy Institute’s 2006 Outstanding Individual achievement award in November. The award was created to recognize the valuable and demonstrable contribution that individuals make in the oil and gas industry.

Criteria for the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award included demonstrating an outstanding individual achievement within the energy industry or workplace, showing a commitment to the energy industry and its future and demonstrating a high degree of leadership. For Randy, this award represents more than just his individual efforts.

“I was absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive the EI award,” says Randy. “Although the award recognizes an individual contribution, I view it as a team accomplishment. The support from my Nexen colleagues and the commitment by the company to operating with the highest level of integrity and social responsibility has greatly facilitated any contributions that I may have made. In addition, I have been privileged to work with a number of outstanding international organizations such as the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA), the World Petroleum Council and the United Nations Global Compact.”

The Energy Institute holds the annual award ceremony to celebrate excellence and innovation in the oil and gas industry. In its seventh year of distributing these awards, the Energy Institute continues to recognize the achievements of individuals who go above and beyond industry’s best practices and those who demonstrate a passion for their work.

With several of his work colleagues recognized for this achievement, Randy also acknowledged his family for their contribution to his success.

“Finally, I wish to acknowledge the encouragement and tolerance from my wife and family who make all of this worthwhile."
