For the third year in a row, Nexen is one of 30 Canadian companies to make Aon Hewitt’s 2012 Green 30 List. Maclean’s magazine publishes the list, which is based on employee perceptions of their organizations’ environmental stewardship initiatives.

Over 112,000 employees at more than 250 organizations answered questions about their employers’ environmental policies and practices as part of the 2012 surveys on the Best Employers and Best Small and Medium Employers in Canada. As a result of our participation in the Best Employers study, Nexen was automatically considered for the Green 30 list.

“We take our commitment to being a responsible developer seriously – so we’re acting on many fronts to manage our environmental impacts,” says Kelly Kowalchuk, Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment & Social Responsibility (HSE&SR). “Our employees are dedicated to these efforts and should be proud of our achievements.”

Some of the work we’re doing that’s helping to build our reputation as a responsible developer includes voluntary efforts to reduce our direct GHG emissions, our Canadian Oil and Gas Division’s Responsible Care® “in-place” verification status, and our leadership in the Canada Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) - an industry organization committed to sustainable growth in the oil sands.

“Our reputation for doing the right thing is crucial from a recruitment and employee engagement perspective,” says Quinn Wilson, Vice-President, Human Resources and Corporate Services. “People seek us out as an employer because they know we’re firmly committed not only to maintaining profitability but to doing so in a manner that is responsible.”
