Robin Greschner
Analyst, Investor Relations
After spending two summers working for Nexen during university, Robin Greschner, thought that joining the company permanently was a good fit for her. Turns out she was right.
"I saw Nexen as a place of opportunity where a young, motivated person could build a successful career. The Finance New Grad program provided a great start," says Robin, a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
As part of the program, Robin participates in rotational training. She's currently in her second rotation in Investor Relations. Her first rotation was in risk management in the Marketing group.
When you ask her what the best part of the company is, her answer is 'the people.'
"I love to learn and since graduating from university, the people I have worked with have become my teachers."
Robin's formal mentor is Mitch White, but she also credits many others, from managers to peers, as informal mentors who provide guidance. As for her contributions to Nexen, she takes on every project with an attitude that it is a value creating opportunity. She says the value isn't always tangible but any time she can create efficiency, offer a new perspective or be a good team member, she tries to do so.
"Nexen's success isn't limited to managerial decisions. I believe value is created through a collective sense of pride and quest for good results."
With her ambition and determination, we wondered where she sees herself in five years. She jokingly replied, "Marvin's job would be an interesting challenge!" But in reality, she hopes to be in a permanent role, on a great team and making a meaningful contribution.
Robin's first career choice was medicine. So when she enrolled in the commerce program, she couldn't have moved any further away. Robin figured that being a doctor was the ultimate way to help people but realized she'd rather learn business strategy instead of human anatomy. Luckily, she found her passion in commerce.
"Now I satisfy my desire to help people through volunteering and I get my medical fix from watching Grey's Anatomy every week."
