This program, lasting five years, allows new grads to experience diverse areas of our operations. The combination of various developmental assignments, training and mentoring provides the tools needed to build a successful career at Nexen.

Development options include Drilling Engineer and Explorational Geologist.

Since January 2008, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) approved Nexen as one of a select group of corporations and government departments outside public practice to offer a CA Training Program. Given the public recognition for Nexen's governance, ethics and integrity, we’re now recognized as an official CA Training Office, offering this specialized program to new graduates.

The training consists of a practical experience requirement in which New Grads rotate through three, one-year rotations in Nexen departments offering relevant work opportunities that match the CICA competency requirements. Qualified CAs at Nexen are responsible for overseeing the CA students’ progress and their reporting to the provincial institute.

In addition to practical training, all Canadian-trained CA students must write the CA profession's uniform evaluation (UFE) – a three-day exam held each year. Module-based training, offered by the CA School of Business (CASB), is available throughout the program to help prepare CA students for the UFE.

This program complements many of our existing development options and further promotes our core value of learning.

The new grad program exposes you to many disciplines, and the diverse asset base in both conventional and unconventional plays allows you to create a solid career foundation.
