Buzzard Is the UK's Highest-Producing Field
Acquired by Nexen in 2004, Buzzard is the biggest UK North Sea discovery in the last two decades. The Buzzard facility is located about 60 miles northeast of Aberdeen in 317 feet of water. About 560 people work aboard the Buzzard platform.
Buzzard, which began production in early 2007, produced approximately 160,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) (about 69,300 boe/d net to Nexen) in 2012.
Oil from Buzzard is exported via the Forties pipeline to the Kinneil Terminal in Scotland. Natural gas is exported via the Frigg pipeline system to the St. Fergus Gas Terminal in northeast Scotland.
Nexen Petroleum UK Limited is the operating partner of Buzzard (43.21%), with Suncor UK Ltd (29.89%), BG Group (21.73%) and Edinburgh Oil and Gas (5.16%) also holding interests in the field and its facilities.
